We are glad to announce our support of the first exhibition of Yellow Mountain Contemporary Art in Austria. Using the Yellow Mountain Private Collection as a base, this exhibition will introduce the audience to an exciting and complex image of human identity as seen through the eyes of a new generation of Chinese contemporary artists.
The exhibition, curated by Beijing-based curator, Wei Xing, will include artworks of 18 artists born between the 1950’s-1980’s, in various mediums: oil paintings, sculptures, installation, photography and video art. The exhibition will explore current debates in China about the characteristics and differences between generations as China continues to grow rapidly and Chinese society remains in a constant state of flux. While Chinese artists are connected to and influenced by Western cultural and artistic trends, they are also forging a unique Chinese identity. The exhibition will highlight this evolving dynamic between Chinese contemporary and Western art.

The exhibition will be part of VIENNA ART WEEK

21 – 23 Nov: from 4:00-10:00 pm
afterwards: Monday-Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm / Saturday, Sunday from 2:00 – 09:00 pm

Wei Xing was born in China in 1973. He received a MA in Art History from Goldsmith College London in 2002. In 2006 he joined the prestigious Tang Gallery in the 798 art district in Beijing, as a curator and International Program Coordinator. From 2011 to 2013 he worked as Chief Curator at Himalayas Private Art Museum in Shanghai. From 2013 he has been working as an independent curator with a focus on young Chinese artists.

Yellow Mountain Contemporary Art is a platform focused on identifying, supporting and developing exciting young and emerging artists from China and Asia more broadly. The platform seeks to promote promising but relatively unknown artists through holding unique exhibitions and art projects in Europe, China and elsewhere around the world. The Beijing-Hong Kong-Vienna based platform also seeks to promote cultural exchange between Chinese and international artists through joint exhibitions, public art events and art residencies for promising young artists.
